We’re Moving Blog Subscriptions to Jetpack: How to Sign Up and Manage Your Emails

We’re simplifying email subscriptions for blog.j2sw.com. Jetpack will become our single system for blog and Packets DownRange email updates, and we will sunset Noptin and Subscribe to Category.

Running several subscription tools adds cost and makes it harder to know where to sign up or change your preferences. Consolidating gives us one place to manage email updates while keeping the focus on networking guides, ISP field notes, and Packets DownRange.

What this means for existing subscribers

If you already follow this blog through Jetpack or WordPress.com, keep that subscription. If you subscribed only through Noptin or Subscribe to Category, you can sign up through Jetpack now using the same email address. Don’t assume your old subscription or category preferences have already transferred: this post announces the transition, not a completed migration.

Free blog email updates will remain free. This change concerns blog email delivery; it does not change Patreon memberships or how you follow the j2 Networks Podcast.

New here? Subscribe through Jetpack

1. Find Subscribe to Blog on this site, or visit the subscription page and use the Subscribe with Jetpack form. All new blog email signups now use Jetpack.
2. Enter your email address and click Subscribe.
3. Open the confirmation email and confirm your subscription. Check your spam folder if needed.
4. Follow the prompts to manage your WordPress.com subscription preferences.

Jetpack uses WordPress.com to manage subscriptions. Its confirmation process can create an account for a new subscriber; an existing account can be used instead.

Change when emails arrive

Sign in to WordPress.com with the email address you subscribed with. Open Reader → Manage subscriptions, find blog.j2sw.com / Justin Wilson (j2sw), and use its three-dot menu to adjust delivery. Choose instant updates, a daily digest, or a weekly digest, then save or confirm any prompted changes.

Choose topics or unsubscribe

Category subscriptions are now enabled. After submitting the Jetpack signup form, select the topics you want and click Confirm selection. For newsletter-only updates, leave Packets Down Newsletter selected and turn off the other categories. Existing subscribers can use Manage Subscription in a Jetpack email footer, or open this site’s entry in their WordPress.com subscriptions, to turn categories on or off.

The Unsubscribe link in an email footer stops that subscription. During the transition, check which system sent a message: changing Jetpack preferences does not unsubscribe you from a separate Noptin or Subscribe to Category list.
