Real-world speed tests with the Alta Labs AP6 Professional

Real-world speed tests with the Alta Labs AP6 Professional access point. I recently had a chance to do some real-world speed tests with the Alta Labs AP6 Pro. I have been testing this product for a bit now. I have always questioned my router and have not published any speed tests. After getting home from WISPAPALOOZA 2023, I swapped my Mikrotik 2011 for a 3011. This router had been running for almost three years straight. I noticed over the past two months my Internet has been weird. After swapping the router, many of my network issues cleared up. I now felt confident in running some tests.

The first is wired directly into my router as a baseline.

Wired speedtest

Using the Mac-based Application, I am getting what I pay for from Comcast. It’s a 1Gig by 45 meg connection. Close enough for me.

Next is testing using the AP6 Professional and the wireless in my 2023 Macbook Pro. Stats look like

PHY Mode: 802.11ax
Channel: 36 (5GHz, 80MHz)
Signal / Noise: -60 dBm / -87 dBm
Transmit Rate: 720
MCS Index: 7

Wireless speedtest

I would consider these pretty good numbers over wireless. Having a WiFI6-enabled card in my laptop helps quite a bit. So if you are looking for a fast Wi-Fi access point this may be the one for you.
